How to Capture a Still Image From a Video Using VLC Player

suggest that you follow these five steps in making Images From a Video

  1. Open VLC media player. It's free software; if you don't already have it, download it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
  2. Open your video file and start playing it.
  3. When you get to the frame you want to save as a still image, click on the "pause" symbol.
  4. On the VLC media player menu, go to "Settings" then"Preferences" then "Video." In the box next to "Video snapshot directory (or filename)" type in the directory where you want to save the image. Or pick the directory by clicking on the "Browse..."button. Then click "Save."
  5. On the VLC media player menu, pick "Video" then "Snapshot." Your picture has been saved in the directory you choose.

Tips & Warnings:
  • It might be helpful to choose your "My Pictures" directory as a default. That way, you'll always know where you saved the pictures you took from your videos.
  • It can be tricky to pause at the right time. Don't worry; a bit of trial and error and you'll end up with the exact frame you want.
